Do you do Focus and Fiesta keys on-site? Every generation?
▾
Yes — the Focus and Fiesta are among the most common Fords I cut keys for in Tenerife, and every generation from the Focus Mk2 (2004–2011) through the Mk4 (2018–2025, proximity Smart Key on higher trims) and the last Fiesta (2017–2023) is in scope. I stock the common Ford blanks and fobs; rarer trims or model years I order in, which can add a day. ST and RS use the same key family as the Titanium. Mustang Mach-E included — its proximity programming is a more complex job than most aftermarket shops will take on, and I handle it with dealer-level access.
How do Ford keys work?
▾
Every modern Ford has a built-in immobilizer — the anti-theft system that only starts the engine for a key it recognizes. Two key types cover almost every Ford: an older transponder key (a chip in a metal blade) and a newer push-button proximity Smart Key (the fob in your pocket).
Transponder keys cover most older Fords and base trims to this day; proximity Smart Keys (Ford KeyFree) came in on Titanium trims from about 2007 and are now standard on Titanium / ST-Line / Vignale and most newer Fords. Customer-facing it's all just "the key" — but which type your Ford uses tells me the blank that fits and the programming flow your car needs.
How much does a Ford key replacement cost in Tenerife?
▾
Year matters. Up to about 2018, Ford keys sit at my standard floors: a transponder key (older Fiesta / Focus / Transit, metal blade + chip) from €60, a flip-key remote from €120, a proximity Smart Key from €200. From 2019 on (Mustang Mach-E included) the newest Fords start from €162+ for the proximity Smart Key — the newer hardware and secure programming cost more. Lost all keys (AKL) starts at €200 per key on older Fords and from €200 per key on the newest smart-key Fords; re-programming a fob you already have is from €60.
Is a locksmith cheaper than the Ford dealer for a 2018-or-newer Ford key?
▾
Usually, yes. For a 2018-or-newer Ford — the transponder models and the newer push-button proximity Smart Key models alike — I cut and program the key right at your vehicle in Tenerife, so there's no tow and it's same day instead of the dealer's parts-order wait. Transponder keys start at €60 and proximity Smart Keys from €200; the newest Fords (2019 and newer, including Kuga, Puma and Mustang Mach-E) start from €200, with all-keys-lost from €200 per key — quoted in writing before I start. Text me your Ford's year and trim to confirm.
Do you do Mustang Mach-E keys?
▾
Yes. The Mach-E (2021+) uses the same kind of proximity Smart Key as Ford's newest petrol and hybrid models — same programming flow. The EV powertrain doesn't change the key/immobilizer architecture, which is good news for the cost of a replacement compared to a Tesla.
Can you do the new Kuga (2020+) on-site?
▾
Yes. The 3rd-generation Kuga (2020+, petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid) uses Ford's current proximity Smart Key on most trims. Same programming flow as the latest Focus and Puma. Titanium, ST-Line, Vignale and Active versions all share the same key family. The Puma (smaller crossover, Fiesta-based platform) uses the same newest key family too.
My Ford's anti-theft light is flashing and the engine cranks but won't start. What is that?
▾
That's the immobilizer theft light — the anti-theft system is blocking fuel and spark because it can't authenticate your key, so the engine cranks but won't catch. It's rarely a dead key-fob battery. More often it's a damaged transponder chip, a key the immobilizer stopped recognizing, a failed antenna ring at the ignition, or a key that was never programmed.
The transponder chip in a Ford key is passive — powered by the antenna ring around the ignition, not the fob's CR2032 — so a dead fob battery only kills the remote buttons, not the start. A dead or disconnected vehicle battery, or a module event, can also make the immobilizer stop recognizing a key it used to accept. Don't keep cranking — you'll wear the starter. Text me the year/trim and I'll check on-site whether the key is being read, then re-program it or cut and program a fresh one; if it turns out to be the antenna ring or an immobilizer/PCM fault, that's a vehicle-side electrical fix and I'll tell you straight.
Can you cut a Ford key from the VIN if I have no key at all?
▾
Yes — that's the all-keys-lost (AKL) job, and it's common on Fiestas, Focuses and Transits where the spare went missing years ago. Using dealer-level access — the same information the dealership works from — I cut a fresh blade and program a new transponder key or proximity Smart Key into your Ford's immobilizer on-site in Tenerife, no flatbed to the dealer. Before I start I verify ownership — DNI/NIE or other photo ID matched to the «permiso de circulación» or «ficha técnica» in your name, or authorisation from the owner — and if the documents are locked inside, I run the lockout first so you can pull them.
