At Otypro in Tenerife, I cut and program Honda keys at your vehicle — spare keys from €60, Smart Keys from €200, all-keys-lost from €200. Honda staggered Smart Key by trim, so trim matters as much as year.
Updated September 2026 · By Olexy — mobile auto locksmith, Tenerife
I’m Olexy — I handle the full Honda lineup: Civic, Accord, CR-V, Jazz, HR-V, ZR-V, e:Ny1, Honda e, Insight, CR-Z, Civic Type R. Honda staggered Smart Key by trim for almost a decade, so a 2014 Civic Comfort and a 2014 Civic Executive are two completely different jobs. That trim-by-trim complexity is more than a lot of shops will take on, which is why a stuck Honda owner who’s been turned away once usually ends up here. I have dealer-level access end to end, from a spare to a full Honda all-keys-lost replacement.
Which Honda key is yours?
Trim decides the key as much as the year does.

Honda pricing
At Otypro in Tenerife, I cut and program Honda car keys on-site — spare keys from €60, Smart Keys from €200, all-keys-lost from €200
Open-ended starting prices. Older transponder trims sit at the floor; Smart Key proximity trims sit higher because the fob hardware costs more.
Spare / extra key
from €60 transponder
from €120 remote head / flip
from €200 smart key
Cut and programmed at your vehicle. All Honda models, every generation. Transponder trims at the floor; Smart Key trims sit higher in the range. Full breakdown on the spare key page.
Lost all keys (AKL)
from €200
A brand-new Honda key, matched to your car’s immobilizer in your driveway after I check ownership. No dealer parts-order, no tow, and no service-bay slot — one visit. Details on the lost-keys page.
Fob programming only
from €60 you bring it
from €60 I supply
Bring a reputable aftermarket Honda fob and the programming is labour-only at €60; or I supply a basic remote — same from €60 floor. A push-button-start proximity Smart Key is a pricier part — that’s the spare / AKL pricing above, not a €60 basic-fob job. If you’re not sure yet whether it’s the battery or the fob itself, my Civic key fob troubleshooting guide walks through how to tell the difference before you book anything. Fob programming details →
Spare versus AKL versus fob — if the line between them is fuzzy, my car key replacement in Tenerife guide draws it clearly.

Honda ran three key types alongside each other for years, and which one your car takes depends on its trim as much as its model year. An LX and a Touring from the same year can need completely different keys.
You don't need to know the names. Look at what you do to start the car, then text me the year, model and trim — or just a photo of the key you already have. That settles the tier before I quote anything.
Covered · from €60
A chip in the plastic head talks to the immobilizer, so a key cut from the blade alone will open the door but never start the car. Base trims kept this key well past 2010, which is why the year on its own never settles the quote.
Most Hondas to the mid-2010s on base trims
Covered · from €120
One piece: the blade and the lock/unlock buttons share a single body. The CR-V stayed on this key longer than any other Honda, and a flip version folds the blade into the head.
Roughly 2006 to 2017 on mid trims
Covered · from €200
A proximity fob for push-button start. Honda put it on the upper trims first and made it standard later, so two cars of the same model year can take different keys — that is the single most common source of a wrong quote on a Honda.
Top trims from the late 2000s, every trim on the newest cars
Every other Honda
Civic gets its own section below because it dominates the search volume. Here's everything else — the mainstream Honda models plus the older and lower-volume ones.
| Model | Years | Key types | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accord | 7th – 8th gen · 2003–2015 | Transponder → Smart Key | Sold in Europe until 2015. The 7th gen (2003–2008) runs a transponder remote-head key; with the 8th gen (2008–2015) the top trims (Executive) got Smart Key while the rest kept the remote-head key — the longest trim split of any Honda. The Tourer estate uses the same key as the saloon. |
| CR-V | 2nd – 6th gen · 2002+ | Transponder → Smart Key | Tied with Civic as my most-common Honda job. 2nd–4th gen are transponder-only. 5th gen (2018+ in Europe) added Smart Key on upper trims. 6th gen 2023+ Smart Key across the board, Hybrid included. |
| Jazz | 2nd – 4th gen · 2008+ | Transponder → Smart Key | 2nd gen (2008–2015) is transponder-key territory; Smart Key arrived with the 3rd gen (2015–2020) on the top trims. 4th gen 2020+ (e:HEV hybrid, Crosstar included) has Smart Key on most trims. |
| e:Ny1 + Honda e | 2023+ / 2020–2024 | Smart Key | e:Ny1 (2023+ EV) is proximity Smart Key across the board from launch. Honda e (2020–2024 city EV) the same — Smart Key on every car. |
| HR-V + Insight + CR-Z | 2015+ / 2009–2014 / 2010–2016 | Transponder → Smart Key | HR-V: Smart Key on upper trims from the mid-2010s, and on most trims of the current e:HEV generation (2021+). Insight and CR-Z (both discontinued hybrids) use the same Honda transponder key families as the Jazz and Civic of their era. |
| Civic Type R | FK2 · FK8 · FL5 · 2015+ | Smart Key | The Type R shares the key family of the regular Civic of its generation — FK2 (2015–2017), FK8 (2017–2021) and FL5 (2023+) — so it's covered the same way: proximity Smart Key with push-button start, same blanks, same programming flow. |
| Legend, Stream, FR-V | Legend to 2012 · Stream, FR-V discontinued | Transponder → Smart Key | Stream and FR-V (discontinued family MPVs) are transponder turn-key — well supported. Legend (sold in Europe until 2012) used a Smart Key on most cars — also in scope. |
Not on this list? S2000, Element, Prelude, NSX — older or lower-volume, still in scope. Text the year/model and I'll confirm.
Why Honda is different
Toyota rolled Smart Key out across its range in just a few years. Honda did the opposite. They put Smart Key on the top trim of each model years before the base trim, and kept that two-tier split running for almost a decade. So when someone texts me “2014 Civic” without a trim, I genuinely don’t know yet whether to bring a transponder blank or a Smart Key fob. Here’s the rough shape of how Honda staggered it.
| Model | Smart Key on top trim from | Smart Key standard from | The split window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Civic | ~2012 9th gen | ~2022 11th gen | ~10 years where trim decides the key |
| Accord | ~2008 8th gen | never — left Europe in 2015 | ~7 years of trim split |
| CR-V | ~2018 5th gen | ~2023 6th gen | ~5 years of trim split |
| Jazz | ~2015 3rd gen | ~2020 4th gen | ~5 years of trim split |
| ZR-V | 2023, from launch | 2023, from launch | No split — Smart Key on every trim |
| HR-V | ~2015 2nd gen | ~2021 e:HEV gen | ~6 years of trim split |
Approximations — Honda moved Smart Key around between trim levels and model-year refreshes, so the exact cutoff for a given trim shifted year to year. The shape is right; the specifics get nailed down by your trim badge or a photo of the existing key.
The volume driver
"Honda Civic" gets more monthly Google searches in Tenerife than every other Honda model combined. It's also the single Honda I cut the most keys for. So I built the work around it: blanks for the common Civic generations on hand (rarer ones I order in), programming flow for every trim split, and dealer-level access for the Smart Key Civics — a more involved job, and the point where most aftermarket shops start hedging.
If you're texting me about a Civic, I usually know exactly what blank to grab before I leave the driveway. That's the difference between a 25-minute job and a "let me order the part, give me three days" job.
Civic generations I service
FK / FN / FD · 2006–2011
Hatchback, Type R (FN2) and Hybrid saloon. Transponder key throughout — no Smart Key trims in this generation. Most-common Honda I see for "lost all keys, can't get into the car" jobs. Cheap end of the Civic range to replace.
FK · 2012–2017
Hatchback, Tourer estate and Type R (FK2). Most cars run a transponder remote key; the top trims (Executive) and the Type R added Smart Key — that's the start of the trim split.
FK / FC · 2017–2022
The heart of the trim split. Hatchback and saloon: lower trims kept a transponder remote key, upper trims (Executive and up) got Smart Key, and the Type R (FK8) came with Smart Key standard. This is the generation where "year + trim" matters most for an accurate quote.
FL · 2022+
Smart Key standard across all trims, e:HEV hybrid and Type R included. Latest Honda proximity Smart Key. Dealer-level access required for AKL on these — that's exactly what I have.
The 11th-gen Civic e:HEV hybrid and the Type R FL5 (2023+) share the same key family — same blanks, same programming flow.
Deeper on the big three
2001+ · four key types
The generation strip above covers the Civic chassis by chassis; this is the same story told by key type. A chipped transponder key with a separate button fob from around 2001, a one-piece remote-head key on a laser-cut blade from around 2006, the first proximity Smart Key on upper trims around 2014, and push-to-start standard on every trim from the 2022 redesign. Priced the same way: transponder spare from €60, remote-head key from €120, Smart Key from €200. If the fob quit on a hot day, start with my walkthrough for a Civic fob that’s not working — it’s often just the coin cell — then text me year and trim and I’ll pin down which key yours takes before anything gets booked.
2005+ · the remote-head marathon
A 2005–2006 CR-V still paired a separate transponder key with a stand-alone remote — the €60 transponder tier, not a remote-head key. After that, no Honda stayed on the one-piece remote-head key longer: from roughly 2007 to around 2014, every CR-V trim used the key with the buttons in the head — that’s the €120 tier today. The proximity Smart Key landed around 2015 on upper trims, and European-market CR-Vs made it common from around 2017, while some other markets kept the metal key for years after — so an imported CR-V can carry a different key than its same-year European twin. Smart Key spares run from €200. Text me the year and trim — plus whether it was first sold in Spain or imported, if you know — and I’ll confirm the key before I head your way.

2003+ · the split years
By key type the Accord goes: remote-head transponder keys from around 2003, the proximity Smart Key joining on higher trims with the 2013 redesign, and push-to-start across the whole lineup from 2018 — with the popular Sport trim famously keeping the metal key right through 2017. Two quirks worth knowing before ordering anything online: the roughly 2008–2012 sedan and coupe take different remote-head keys, and a push-to-start Accord with a flat fob battery will still start if you hold the fob against the start button and press the brake. Remote-head keys sit at €120 here and Smart Keys at €200. Text me year, trim, and body style and I’ll confirm the exact key first — no guessing at the curb.
These cover Honda specifically — for general service, pricing, and how-it-works questions, see the dedicated spare, lost-keys, and fob pages, or the full FAQ page.
Honda staggered the Smart Key rollout by trim for almost a decade. From roughly 2008 to the early 2020s, the same year Civic, Accord, CR-V, or Jazz could come with a traditional transponder key on the base trim and a proximity Smart Key on the top trim — different blanks, different programming, different prices. So when you text me a Honda quote, year alone isn't enough — I need the trim (for example Comfort, Sport or Executive) or a photo of your existing key to be sure I bring the right blank.
Almost every Honda on the road today has a chip key the car has to recognize before it will start — that's the immobilizer doing its job; Honda phased it in through the late 1990s, and EU rules have required it on every new car since 1998. Older Hondas use a transponder key (a chip in the head of the key that talks to the car's computer); newer ones, and the top trims going back over a decade, use a proximity Smart Key for push-button start. Your year and trim tell me which one you have.
Spare or extra Civic key starts at €60 for older transponder keys (lower trims up to 2022) and from €200 for Smart Keys (top trims from 2012, every Civic from 2022), if I supply. Less if you bring your own reputable aftermarket fob. Lost all keys (AKL) starts at €200. Fob programming on its own starts at €60. Smart Key proximity fob hardware is the reason the higher tier costs more.
Yes. I have dealer-level access — information, hardware, and software — for the Honda platform across the full transponder + Smart Key lineup. Civic AKL is one of my most common jobs because the Civic is also one of the most-Googled Hondas in Tenerife. Newer 11th-generation Civic (2022+) AKL takes a bit longer than older generations because of the proximity hardware, but it's still a one-trip job — no tow, no dealer queue.
Yes. The Jazz runs the same Honda immobilizer and key family logic, with the same blanks and programming flow per generation as the rest of the lineup. All generations in scope at the standard floor pricing. Older Jazz are transponder keys; the current e:HEV hybrid generation has proximity Smart Key on most trims — text me the year and trim.
Almost always the battery. Honda Smart Keys use a CR2032 coin cell that lasts 2–4 years depending on use. Open the fob with the tab on the back, swap the battery, you're back. If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, then it's a programming or hardware issue and I can sort it on-site. The mechanical blade inside the Smart Key still unlocks the door manually if you ever need it. Full walkthrough on the fob programming page.
Yes, that's the all-keys-lost (AKL) job. On a Honda I confirm your exact trim first, since two same-year Civics can need different keys. Using dealer-level access, I cut and program a new key into your immobilizer on-site in Tenerife, no tow to the dealer. I verify ownership first: your DNI/NIE or other photo ID matched to the permiso de circulación in your name.
Quote in writing before I dispatch. Civic, CR-V, Accord, Jazz, HR-V, ZR-V — every generation in scope. Pay after the key starts the engine.
