It’s usually the battery
Most Jaguar smart keys take a CR2032 — if yours differs, match the CR code printed on the old cell. ~€3.11, no programming.
At Otypro in Tenerife, I cut and program Jaguar keys at your car — spare keys from €60, smart keys from €200. All-keys-lost starts at €200 for older transponder and remote keys, or from €200 for a push-to-start smart key. A second key made the same visit costs less than coming back for it later — I put that number in your written quote. A dead fob is often a €3.11 battery you can DIY. Written quote by text first.

A lot of Jaguar calls start as “the remote stopped working” or “key not detected,” and often it’s just the coin-cell battery — so I’ll tell you straight when it’s a €3.11 fix you can do yourself, and handle it on-site when it’s actually a programming or lost-key job. Smart keys and older remote keys — XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace, F-Type, XJ and the rest; for 2018+ models I confirm first. If you’ve lost every Jaguar key, that’s the lost-car-keys job.

Which Jaguar key is yours?
Every current Jaguar — XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace, F-Type — uses a push-button smart key; the older Ford-era cars use a remote key.
Not sure? Text me a photo of your key — I'll identify it.
Jaguar pricing
At Otypro in Tenerife, I cut and program Jaguar car keys on-site — spare keys from €60, smart keys from €200, all-keys-lost from €200, with a written quote by text before I drive out.
Open-ended starting prices. Older remote-key Jaguars sit at the floor; smart key models sit higher because the fob hardware costs more. A fob battery you can do yourself for about €3.11.
Spare / extra key
from €60 transponder
from €120 remote head / flip
from €200 smart key
Cut and programmed at your car. Jaguar from the X-Type to the F-Pace; 2018+ models I confirm first. Older transponder and remote keys at the floor; push-button smart keys sit higher in the range. Full breakdown on the spare key page.
Lost all keys (AKL)
from €200 transponder
from €200 smart key
All-keys-lost starts at €200 for older transponder and remote keys, or from €200 for a push-to-start smart key. A second key made the same visit costs less than coming back for it later — I put that number in your written quote. A brand-new Jaguar key, cut and programmed where the car is parked after I verify ownership; for 2018+ models I confirm first whether it can be done on-site. Set against a dealer parts-order, a tow, and a workshop appointment, it is a single on-site visit. Details on the lost-keys page.
Fob programming / battery
from €60 you bring it
from €60 I supply
Bring a reputable aftermarket Jaguar fob and it’s labour-only at €60; or I supply a basic remote — same from €60 floor. A push-button smart key is a pricier part (spare pricing above), not a €60 basic-fob job. A plain battery swap isn’t worth a service call — do it yourself for ~€3.11 (see above). The usual Jaguar key problem
Jaguar key fob battery replacement in Tenerife is what a lot of owners search for when the remote quits — so let's get you sorted whether or not you ever need to call me. A dead coin cell is a €3.11 fix you can do where the car is parked. Here's the honest version.
Jaguar smart keys from roughly 2008–2015 (XF, XJ, XK) use a CR2032. The newer fobs from about 2016 on (XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace, I-Pace, F-Type) usually take a CR2032 as well. Older remotes can differ, so don’t guess — pop the fob open and read the number printed on the old battery, then match it. Any ferretería, supermarket, or pharmacy has it for a few euros.
The single most common reason a Jaguar fob stops working right after a battery swap is the new battery going in upside down. Before you pull the old one, note which way the plus (+) side faces. There’s also an emergency key blade inside the smart key — slide it out to unlock the driver’s door by hand (on many models the lock sits behind a small cover on the door handle). A battery swap never needs reprogramming.
This is the one worth knowing before you're stuck in a car park at Tenerife Sur. Even with a completely dead fob battery, the car can still recognise the key up close:
Get in (slide the emergency blade out of the fob and unlock the driver's door by hand — on many models the lock is behind a small cover on the handle).
Press and hold the brake pedal.
Hold the fob against the backup spot — usually on the steering column — then press START/STOP. Your owner's manual shows the exact spot and which way the fob should face.
Coin cells drain faster in heat, so a fob that's felt weak for a while often gives up after a hot Tenerife afternoon in a parked car. If a fresh, correctly-seated battery still doesn't fix it, it's a programming or hardware problem — and that's where I come in, on-site, the same visit. More on fob programming →
The Jaguar lineup
Older Ford-era Jaguars use a transponder key with a remote; from the 2008 XF on, Jaguars moved to a proximity smart key with push-button start. Year and model decide which — and how much the 2018+ security tightens things — so text me both, or a photo of your existing key, for an exact quote.
Saloon / Sportbrake · 2008+
Jaguar’s executive saloon. The first XF (2008–2015) brought the push-button smart key; the second generation (2016+) uses the newer Jaguar fob. From 2018 key security tightened — text me the year and model; I confirm before I drive over whether it can be done on-site.
Saloon · 2015+
The compact saloon, smart key and push-button start across the range. Earlier cars are the usual smart-key job; for 2018+ send me the year and I’ll confirm the key and quote first.
SUV · 2016+
Jaguar’s first SUV, sold in Spain since 2016. Smart key with push-button start; some cars also have the Activity Key wristband. 2018+ cars sit on the tighter key security — text me the year so I can confirm scope before I drive over.
Compact SUV / electric · 2018+
The compact E-Pace and the electric I-Pace — smart key only, and both on the 2018+ key security. Text me the year and model — I confirm before I drive over whether it can be done on-site.
Coupé / convertible · 2013+
The sports car. Smart key with push-button start. Earlier years are the usual smart-key job; for 2018+ cars send me the year and I’ll confirm the key and quote first.
Saloon / GT · various
The later XJ (2010–2019) uses a smart key with push-button start; older XJ and XK cars use a remote key or a smart key depending on the year. Neither is sold new in Spain any more, so a spare key is worth having. Text me the year.
Older or rarer — X-Type, S-Type, XK8, an older XJ? Still in scope. The Ford-era Jaguars shared platforms and immobilizer tech with Fords, so the blanks and programming are familiar. Text the year and model.
These are Jaguar-specific — for general service, pricing, and how-it-works questions, see the dedicated spare, lost-keys, and fob pages, or the full FAQ page.
Most Jaguar smart keys — XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace, I-Pace, F-Type, XJ — take a CR2032 coin cell. Older remotes can differ, so the safest move: pop the fob open, read the number printed on the old battery, and match it. One tip that saves a lot of grief — the most common reason a fob stops working right after a battery swap is the new battery going in upside down, so note which way the plus (+) side faces before you pull the old one. It’s a €3 part at any ferretería or supermarket; no reprogramming needed for a battery swap.
A push-button Jaguar will still start with a totally dead fob battery. Press the brake, then hold the fob against the backup spot your owner’s manual shows — usually on the steering column — and press START/STOP. The car reads the fob at close range even when the remote won’t work. There’s also an emergency key blade inside the smart key that unlocks the driver’s door by hand. Worth knowing before you’re stuck in a car park at Tenerife Sur. If a fresh, correctly-seated battery still doesn’t bring the remote back, that’s a programming or hardware issue — text me and I’ll sort it on-site.
On many pre-2018 Jaguars — the first XF, the later XJ and XK, early XE, F-Pace and F-Type — typically yes, as a one-trip job at your car: no tow, no dealer queue. It takes longer than an older remote-key job because of the smart-key hardware. From 2018 Jaguar tightened key security with online coding (E-Pace, I-Pace and later XE, XF, F-Pace, F-Type), so text me the year and model — I confirm before I drive over whether it can be done on-site.
Yes. Older Jaguars mostly use a transponder key with a remote and sit at the floor for a spare. The Ford-era cars shared platforms and immobilizer tech with Fords, so the blanks and programming are familiar territory for me. X-Type, S-Type, XK8, older XJ — text me the year and model and I’ll confirm the key and the quote.
Three usual causes. First, the new battery is in upside down or is a weak off-brand — re-seat it the same way the old one sat and try a fresh name-brand cell. Second, the fob lost its sync or the internal board is damaged (water, a hard drop) — that needs reprogramming or a new fob. Third, it was never the fob — it’s a receiver or wiring issue on the car. I can tell which it is on-site and fix the programming side the same visit. Text me the year/model and what happened right before it quit.
Yes — that’s the all-keys-lost (AKL) job. On a Jaguar I first confirm the year and model and whether you’re on an older remote key or a push-button smart key, since that sets the part and the time — and for 2018+ models whether it can be done on-site at all. I cut a fresh blade and program a new key into your Jaguar’s immobilizer right at your car in Tenerife, no tow to the dealer. Before I start I verify ownership — photo ID matched to your registration or proof of insurance in your name — and if the documents are locked in the car, I run the lockout first so you can pull them.
I’ll tell you straight whether it’s a €3.11 battery or a real job — and if it’s a job, you get a written quote before I drive out. XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace, F-Type and the rest, cut and programmed on-site; for 2018+ models I confirm first. Pay after the key works.
