Several vehicles at one address — a lot, a shop, a yard? That's one trip and one setup, so it gets quoted as a batch rather than added up sticker by sticker. Here's how I work with businesses.

Service 1 of 4

Spare / extra key

from €60 transponder

from €120 remote head / flip

from €200 smart key

Starting prices. Final depends on your year/make/model and key type. Transponder keys are the older edge-cut style; remote head and flip keys add the lock/unlock buttons to a transponder key (built into the head, or a blade that flips out of the body); smart keys are proximity fobs on most 2010+ vehicles.

Read the full spare-key page →

What's included

  • ✓Key blank, cut to match your existing working key
  • ✓Programming to your vehicle's immobilizer (transponder, laser-cut, or proximity fob)
  • ✓Battery in the new key if it's a fob or smart key
  • ✓30–40 minutes on-site at your driveway or wherever the car is

What can change the final price

  • ↑Key type: mechanical (lowest), transponder, remote head / flip, laser-cut, proximity fob (highest)
  • ↑Vehicle model and year — some immobilizers take longer to program
  • ↑Number of buttons on the fob (OEM-spec vs trimmed-down aftermarket)
  • ↑A worn original I can't copy cleanly — decoding the lock or sourcing a manufacturer VIN cut adds to the price
  • ↓Second spare ordered at the same time — bundled labour is cheaper
  • ↓You supply the blank or fob — labour-only, no part markup

BMW and MINI: priced separately from the tiers above — a spare starts at €200 for the slot-in style fob, or from €200 for the newer keyless fob. All-keys-lost on a BMW is covered too, quoted in writing by text rather than from a posted floor — full model list on the BMW / MINI page.

Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati and Lamborghini: also priced separately from the tiers above, spare keys and all-keys-lost alike (Mercedes-Benz on models up to 2014). All-keys-lost on these makes is quoted individually in writing by text rather than from a posted floor — each make’s details are on vehicles I service.

Warranty: 1 year on parts I supply against manufacturer defects. The programming is covered by the pay-after-it-works guarantee. Doesn't cover water or physical damage (dropped, run over, cracked) or parts you supplied yourself — full warranty policy.

Service 2 of 4

Lost all keys (AKL)

from €200

It costs more than a spare because there’s no working key to copy from — I decode the lock, cut a key to that code, then program it to your vehicle from scratch, after verifying ownership. More steps and more time on-site than copying a key you already have. Push-to-start smart keys start at €200, and a second key made the same visit costs less than coming back for it late.

Read the full lost-keys page →

What's included

  • ✓Lock decoded first, then a brand-new key cut to that exact code — no original to copy, so the cuts are read off the car
  • ✓Programmed to your vehicle's security system using dealer-level access
  • ✓If it's a remote/fob setup, the fob matched to your vehicle and set to your original's button layout
  • ✓Ownership verification (photo ID matched to ownership proof — registration or proof of insurance in your name)
  • ✓1–3 hours on-site — no tow needed
  • ✓Test of engine start, locks, panic button, and keyless entry if applicable

What can change the final price

  • ↑Key type — smart-key AKL is more than transponder AKL
  • ↑Vehicles with long security timers (15+ min for some makes)
  • ↑Premium / less-common vehicles requiring specific tooling
  • ↓Most vehicles with common immobilizers run at the floor

Warranty: Same 1-year parts warranty as spare keys, plus the pay-after-it-works guarantee on labour. Dealer-level access, done at your car — after I check ID and ownership first.

Service 3 of 4

Key fob programming

from €60 you bring the fob

from €60 I supply

The labour is the same either way — The starting price of €60 covers the programming; what changes your total is the fob itself, so bringing your own is where the saving is. This covers the separate remote fob on a transponder-key vehicle — a push-button Smart Key isn't a €60 basic-fob job; that's the €200 spare pricing above.

Read the full fob page →

What's included

  • ✓Programmed using dealer-level access, at your car
  • ✓Fresh coin-cell battery if your existing fob needs one (CR2032 / CR2025 / similar — type varies by fob)
  • ✓Lock / unlock / panic / boot tests
  • ✓10–15 minutes on-site for most vehicles

What can change the final price

  • ↑I supply the fob — simple remotes start at €60; premium proximity smart fobs run from €200
  • ↑Multi-button proximity fobs cost more than basic 2-button remotes
  • ↓You bring a reputable aftermarket fob (Hopkins, Strattec, OEM-equivalent) — you pay the €60 labour and nothing for the part

Warranty: 1 year on fobs I supply against manufacturer defects. The programming is covered by the pay-after-it-works guarantee. I don't warranty fobs you bought from a third party — the seller covers those, and there's a full warranty policy.

Service 4 of 4

Car lockout

from €56 key locked inside

from €56. Non-destructive door entry; if every key is lost, that's the all-keys-lost job above.

Call directly for a lockout →
Full lockout pricing and process →

What's included

  • ✓Non-destructive entry using proper auto-locksmith tools
  • ✓ID check on arrival to confirm you're the owner or authorized driver
  • ✓5–10 minutes typical, most vehicles

What can change the final price

  • ↑Key stuck or broken in the ignition — extraction is a separate add-on
  • ↑Less common makes or vehicles needing specialty tooling — text me to confirm scope and price
  • ↓Standard sedan or SUV — always the from €56

If the keys are inside the car, you can usually get back in and drive away once I open the door. If the keys are lost (not just locked in), that's a different job — see Lost All Keys for AKL pricing.

Make-specific pricing

Prices and key types vary by manufacturer. Tap your make for the model-by-model breakdown — what your car takes and where it starts.

Want the reasoning behind these numbers? On the blog I break down how much a car key costs in Tenerife and run a real dealer-vs-locksmith cost comparison with worked examples.

Bring-your-own policy

Want to supply your own key or fob?

Yes, you can — and it usually saves money. Two things to be straight about before you order.

What works

  • ✓Reputable aftermarket brands (Hopkins, Strattec, OEM-equivalent) from European suppliers
  • ✓Correct part number and frequency for your vehicle's market (EU-spec)
  • ✓Right keyway / blade profile for your ignition cylinder
  • ✓If you're not sure, send me the listing before you buy — I'll tell you if it looks legit. No charge for the second opinion.

What you should know

  • !I can't warranty parts I didn't supply — the seller covers that
  • !If the part you supplied doesn't pair or doesn't fit, the labour for the attempted programming still applies — the part itself is between you and the seller
  • !Wrong FCC region or wrong keyway = won't work, even if it looks identical. Watch out for this on Amazon/AliExpress listings under €12.
  • !Buying a second wrong part + a second labour call costs more than one correct part + one labour call. If I tell you the part looks wrong, listen.

Other costs to know about

Written quote

Preliminary estimate

The estimated cost is provided in a written quote before I head out.

Night fee

Flat €50 between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

I work 24/7, every day of the year, and the price is the price: no weekend rate, no holiday rate, no rush rate. Between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. there’s one addition — a flat €50 night callout fee on top of the job’s regular starting price. If it can wait until morning, I’ll book you at the regular price instead and say so.

Distance fee

Distance outside the metro area

Inside Puerto de la Cruz, no travel charge. Beyond it, travel is billed at €0.50/km for the extra distance wherever you are — always written into the quote before I dispatch, never a surprise on arrival. I cover the whole of Tenerife.

Payment

Bizum · Card · Cash

Bizum is the most common. A portable card terminal handles debit and credit (Visa, Mastercard). Cash is fine. Payment happens after the work — not before.

Bizum Visa Mastercard American Express Apple Pay Google Pay

The one honest exception

What you pay — and the one time a service-call fee applies

There is one honest exception

If I drive out and can’t complete the job because of something about the vehicle that wasn’t shared with me beforehand — for example, you ask for a new key, but the real problem turns out to be a broken ignition, not the key — or the job is cancelled after I’m already on the road, or no one’s there when I arrive — a €30 service-call fee applies. It covers my fuel, my time, and any diagnosis I did for you on the spot.

If I can do the job, there is no fee — you pay only the price I quoted. The service-call fee is never added on top of a finished job.

How to avoid it

Before I come, tell me what’s actually happening. Does the key turn but the car won’t start? Does it work sometimes and not others? Send a photo of your key. The more I know up front, the more likely I arrive with the right fix — and there’s no wasted trip. Not sure what kind of key you have? Read the 2-minute guide →

Outside the metro area

Because the drive is longer, every job outside Puerto de la Cruz includes a €0.50/km mileage travel charge — always written into your quote before I leave, never a surprise on arrival. If an out-of-town trip can’t be completed, that travel charge is what you owe, not the full job price.

Coverage you might already have

Roadside assistance in Tenerife

Many car insurance policies include roadside assistance, and some cover a locksmith for lost or broken keys up to a set limit. You pay, then submit my invoice. Confirm your policy’s exact cover with your insurer.

Auto insurance

Sometimes no deductible

Some comprehensive policies include key / lock replacement up to a set limit, occasionally with no deductible. It isn’t on every policy — ask your broker specifically about “key replacement” before assuming you aren’t covered.

Key-protection plan

Check your paperwork

If you bought a key (or tire-and-key) protection plan with the vehicle, lost-key replacement and programming may be covered to a yearly limit. These usually want pre-authorization before the work — dig out the paperwork first.

Limits and terms vary by plan and change over time — these are general pointers, not a guarantee. Always confirm with your provider. Want the deeper breakdown? See dealer vs locksmith — where you actually save.

How much does a car key cost in Tenerife?

At Otypro in Tenerife, a replacement car key starts at €60 for a spare transponder key, from €120 for a remote or flip key, and from €200 for a push-to-start smart key. Lost every key? All-keys-lost starts at €200, or from €200 for a push-to-start smart key. Key fob programming is from €60, and a car lockout is from €56.

What do you charge for a car lockout in Tenerife?

from €56, anywhere in Tenerife — quoted in writing by text before I drive out, and you pay after the door opens. That covers damage-free entry at your car; no tow truck involved. If the keys are lost rather than locked in, see the lost-keys pricing above. Locked out right now? Text or call +34 747 733 779 with where you're parked.

How much is a locksmith in Tenerife?

For automotive work, my starting prices at Otypro in Tenerife are: a spare key from €60, a smart/proximity key from €200, all-keys-lost from €200, key fob programming from €60, and a car lockout from €56.

Why are your prices higher than the €12 bait ads I see?

Ads offering services for €20 are often run by call centres. The advertised price isn't what you'll end up paying. In my experience, by the time the technician arrives at your car, the final bill is usually much higher.

Why aren't the prices fixed?

Because honestly, your car affects the price. A 2002 Civic spare is different from a 2024 Highlander spare — different blank, different chip, different programming flow. I'd rather quote you accurately after I see the year/make/model than guess wrong and either overcharge or under-quote.

Why does a lockout cost less than getting a new key?

Pricing reflects the job. A lockout — your keys are locked inside, I pop the door and you're back in — is quick, 5–10 minutes with no parts, so it's from €56. Making a key is a bigger job: I cut and program a working key to your car. The floors reflect actual cost, not arbitrary minimums.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes — card (Visa, Mastercard, debit) on a portable terminal. Bizum is the most common payment. Cash is fine.

How much does it cost to replace a lost car key?

If you still have a working key, it's a spare — from €60 (transponder), from €120 (remote-head or flip key), from €200 (smart key). If every key is gone, that's all-keys-lost, from €200.

I still have my key, but it stopped working — which price applies?

One question decides it: does anything still start the car? If the car still starts and only the remote buttons or proximity quit, that's usually a fob battery or a programming job — programming runs from €60. If nothing starts the car — your only key is dead, broken, or no longer recognized — it prices as all-keys-lost, from €200, because I generate a working key from scratch exactly as if the keys were lost. It's common with used cars that came with one working key.

Is a locksmith cheaper than the dealer for a replacement key?

Usually. My starting prices run from €60 for a spare and from €200 for all-keys-lost, and I come to your car. Dealers often add diagnostic and shop-labour charges plus a wait for the part.

Is there a cheaper alternative to a locksmith for a car key in Tenerife?

Sometimes — it depends what the key needs. A plain metal key with no chip is cheapest at a retail counter, honestly — and my own mechanical copies start at €40. The line is the chip: retail counters and kiosks don't program keys into your car's immobilizer, though some older chip types can be counter-cloned — worth asking them directly. For most modern keys the realistic routes are a locksmith or the dealer — and the dealer usually costs more, adds a parts wait, and needs a tow if nothing starts the car. Not sure what your key needs? Text the year, make and model — if a fob battery is all it takes, I'll say so instead of booking a job.
